Plane Crashes On Airfield

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 19. The instructor to the Hauraki Aero Club was killed today when the Tiger Moth he was flying crashed on the Thames airfield and burst into flames. He was: Jphn William Powell, aged 29, single. Eye-witnesses said Mr Powell was performing aerobatics when the aircraft suddenly plunged to the ground. It was more than an hour after the crash before the body could be retrieved from the wreckage. Mr'Powell took up his appointment with the club only six weeks ago. Previously, he was assistant instructor to the Napier Aero Club.
