Whakatane Had Most Sunshine

With 2518 hours of sunshine. Whakatane headed the list of New Zealand towns in 1957, according to tables prepared by the Meteorological Service. Blenheim, with 2458 hours, was second, and Napier, with 2400 hours, came next. Nelson had 2368 hours of sunshine, Tauranga 2360, Mechanics Bay (Auckland) 2322, Gisborne 2316, Lincoln 2180, Highbank 2163, New Plymouth 2136, Wanganui 2135, Harewood 2085, Kelburn (Wellington) 2059, Ashburton 2001. Akaroa 1896, Timaru 1890, Westport 1870, Hokitika 1813, Queenstown 1775, Waimate 1747, Greymouth 1713, and Invercargill 1599 Christchurch had 33.69 in of rain and 131 raindays. Other rainfall figures were: Timaru 29.92 in, Ashburton 37.56 in, Greymouth 113 in, Westport 98.27 in, Auckland 34.4 in. Gisborne 42.70 in, Hastings 28.93 in. Wellington 48.67 in, Dunedin 43.16 in, and Invercargill 51.78 in. National Water Polo.—Waitemata, which defeated the Hamilton club side 3-2 at Auckland on Saturday night, will now meet Wellington in the final of the North Island section of the national inter-club water polo championships.—(PA.)
