BOWLS Inter-Club Competitions Resume In Christchurch

The Christchurch Bowling Centre’s inter-club competitions were continued on Saturday. Rain stopped play during the afternoon. *5 The matches for the Three Fours /and Robinson Shield were played in the morning in perfect conditions on exceptionally fast greens. In the afternoon when play commenced in the Manning Cup series conditions were the same. Before some of the games were finished heavy rain commenced, and the games had to be abandoned. The results of these games will be taken from the score at the time the games were called off. It is not possible to fihish these games as next Saturday will be the final round of the competition.

A noticeable feature of Saturday’s play was the number of prominent skips who were beaten by lesser known skips. Their losses might have been due to too much bowling during the national tournament, or their inability to handle the greens, which were the fastest they have been this season.

Much interest will be taken in the final round of the Colts’ fours for the Robinson Shield. Up to Saturday the South Brighton four, skipped by J. Clegg, had only lost one game, which put them second to Hornby skipped by P. Kannell. South Brighton kept up their winning run on Saturday, but Hornby suffered their first loss. These two fours are level with one game left to play. If both win next Saturday, a play-off will be necessary.

After the concluding rounds of the inter-club competitions next Saturday, all Saturdays up to the end of March will be devoted to open pairs and singles and champion of champions events.
