REFUGEES AS STOWAWAYS
Recapture Of Hungarians
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 18. Police. tonight caught three Hungarian refugees who disappeared for several hours just before they were to be put on board a snip at Tilbury to be sent back to Brazil. . The three men are in gaol. The men ancl their families —ll persons—arrived in Britain a fortnight ago as stowaways. The men’s disappearance came after « row when the refugees were being put on a coach to be taken to Tilbury to board the Royal Mail liner. Highland Monarch. But after the men disappeared the liner sailed, without the refugees, two hours late. At the last minute before sailing, the British Home Office gave permission for Mrs Julia Farkas, wife of one of the men. and her three children to remain in Britain. Mrs Farkas is expecting another child. The other four refugees are being detained until other transport is available for them and the three men who are in gaol.
