SOUTH RHODESIAN CABINET

Disagreement Over Racial Policy (Rec. 10.15 p.m.) SALISBURY (Southern Rhodesia), January 13.

The Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia (Mr R. S. Garfield Todd) will name his new Cabinet tomorrow, the American Associated Press reported today. The Cabinet resigned on Saturday because, it was reported, of Mr Todd’s liberal attitude toward Africans.

Meanwhile, a group of African trade unionists, businessmen, farmers and journalists have issued a statement in Salisbury backing Mr Todd, who was born in New Zealand.

They said it was clear that his leadership was resented because of his views on partnership between Europeans and Africans.

The statement added: .“It is our cherished hope that it will be possible for Mr Todd to form a new Cabinet that will rise to the occasion and save this country from following the footsteps of South Africa—a policy which would make Rhodesia a bloodbath of racial politics.” Mr Todd told a press conference last night that the regional con-' gress of his United Federal Party is to meet early next month to consider the future of the party’s leadership. He said he would continue, in leadership until the party decided otherwise.
