Yachting TANNER CUP CONTEST
First Race To Canterbury
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 13. Canterbury's 15-year-old M. Tyson, sailing Olympic, won the first of five races for the New Zealand interprovincial under 16 seven-foot P class Tanner Cup yachting conducted by the Heretaunga Boating Club at Petone today. ' A gusty north-west wind caused numerous capsizes. Tyson took the lead shortly after the start and held it for the remainder of the course of a little over three miles. Three boats did not finish. The result of the first race was:— Canterbury (M. Tyson, Olympic) 1, Taranaki (W. Innes, Sinbad) 2, Wellington (R. Wilson,- Alibi Junior) 3. Auckland (R. S. Bezar, Upset) 4, Poverty Bay (P. Otway, Bimbo) 5.
