CANADIAN DOLLAR FIRMER

Overseas Exchange Rates The £ sterling lost } cent in terms of the Canadian dollar last week, but gained slightly in terms of the United States dollar. In the last month the £ has strengthened in relation to both the Canadian and United States dollar, and has made a fractional gain on the Deutschemark. Telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows:

The Wind and the Leaves.— Tired and inconvenienced by the dead leaves lying on the roads, the inhabitants of the Bregentved woods near Haslev, in central Zealand, decided to substitute for the normal autumn winds which had failed them an artificial storm to blow the leaves away. A tractor with a big ventilator * ‘blowing** out air has now been sent out to clear the roads.—Copenhagen (Reuter).
