South Australia Replies Well

A fine innings of 164 by the opener, Gavin Stevens, and solid defence by the tailenders helped to carry South Australia’s first innings score to 397 in the Sheffield Snield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground today. This was only 14 runs behind the New South Wales’ first innings total of 411 Scores were:— South Australia, first innings, 397 (G. Stevens 164, C. Pinch 38. J. Ducker 35, B. Dooland 32, R. Bedford 32; P. Philpott five for 81). New South Wales, first innings, 411; second innings, 39 for no wickets IS. Carroll 22 not out).
Marlborough Retains
Newman Shield
(New Zealana Press Association) BLENHEIM, January 13. In a match of many ups and downs Marlborough retained the Newman Shield against a challenge by Nelson, winning by ,25 runs. Nelson, set 233 runs to win. was all out in the second innings this afternoon for 219. Details:

Interest in Viscount.—From 8.30 a.m. yesterday until dark, sightseers visited Harewood to see the new N.A.C. Viscount aircraft which arrived from Britain on Friday. Though there was a stream of visitors to see the aeroplane during the day, most came last evening. About 70 cars were parked on or near the terminal roundabout shortly after 8 p.m. and a number of sightseers had cycled out to the aerodrome.
