MIRROR TO CAPTURE SUN’S HEAT.—An artist’s impression of a big mirror (right), which will be installed on a New Mexico mountain to use the sun’s rays to create temperatures of more than 7000 degrees. The mirror, 147ft high and 150ft wide, will be used by the United States Air Force to investigate the heat-withstanding properties of materials needed for high-speed missiles. A second mirror (left) will catch the reflected rays and beam them to a five-inch focus.
