CADUCEUS OFF HIS FOOD
Engagements In Doubt (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, January 7. The champion New Zealand pacer Caduceus arrived in Sydney today, in the liner Monowai, to contest his third Inter-Dominion Championship, but his condition is causing his connexions concern. He has been off his food since racing in Auckland on December 31, and his immediate racing programme in Australia is in doubt. Caduceus has been scratched from the Harold Park Free-for-All in Sydney on Friday night, and his attendant, A. Vassallo, said today a start in the £6OOO Harold Park Cup next week is also in doubt. If Caduceus recovers sufficiently he probably will race in the Free-for-All in Melbourne next month then go to Adelaide for the InterDominion Championships to begin on March 1. Caduceus was to have been accompanied on the Monowai by another champion New Zealand pacer. False Step, but the import licence for False Step was not cleared in time in New Zealand and his departure to Australia has been held up. It is expected he will arrive next week. Dates For Taranaki Meeting (New Zealand Press Association! NEW PLYMOUTH, January 7. The Taranaki Trotting Club will race this year on Saturday, March 29, and either Friday, March 28, or Monday, March 31. This will form a circuit with the Hawera Trotting Club, which holds a three-day meeting at Easter. The club last year raced in January. The Cambridge Club, which was to have raced on March 29, will now hold its meeting in June.
