Production
Sir,—It is not production we need, but consumption and distribution, where we are at fault Our warehouses and shops are piled up with goods, but 60 per cent, of the world’s population is on the starvation line. The rest of us are glutted with all the good things of life. To overcome communism feed all these people Poverty breeds communism.— Yours, etc., C. D. TAYLOR January 4, 1958. Sir,—The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr P. N. Holloway) says that New Zealand's production dT wheat has been falling and that the necessary imports of wheat to New Zealand will cost more than £1.000.000 more in 1958 than in 1957 Is it not disgraceful that New Zealand is not growing enough wheat for our own use? If there was less barley grown for beer, and less oats grown for racehorses there would be no need to import wheat Politicians seem to be doing the ostrich trick these days with their heads In the sand. If war came tomorrow what would we feed on’ How could they import wheat then? Let them be like Joseph of old. store up grain for the lean years that may be ahead.—Yours, etc., THINK IT OVER.
