FREEZING WORKS PENAL RATE
New Payment For Slaughtermen
A new penal rate of £1 a 100 for handling obnoxious carcases has been awarded tb mutton slaughtermen at the four North Canterbury freezing works. The rate was fixed by a tribunal under an independent chairman, Mr S. Thompson, of Wellington. An earlier tribunal, also presided over by Mr Thompson which sat towards the end of las* year, awarded the rate to mutton slaughtermen at Borthwick’s Belfast works. The rate has now been extended to the three other North Canterbury works. The rate for handling obnoxious carcases has still to be fixed for other South Island works, but it is thought that the two tribunal decisions will provide the precedent for a uniform rate.
