Evacuation From Otira
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, December 27. Ninety-one women and children were evacuated from Otira in a special rail-car to Greymouth this evening. With the Otira river diverted by a slip, flowing through the township, the situation was regarded as dangerous. At Greymouth, to which most of the evacuated women and children travelled, a radio appeal was made for accommo-
dation and met with such a response that many who had offered to help were not called upon. The police, who arranged for the care of the Otira residents, said the response had been “terrific.” They are expected to stay at Greymouth for at least two days.
