J. Robson In Both Finals (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON. December 27. The No. 1 New Zealand seed, J. Robson (Auckland), yesterday won his way through to the final of the men's A grade singles and doubles at the South Island tennis championships at Nelson. His doubles partner, R. McKenzie (Wellington), was " unexpectedly beaten by the No. 4 seed. L. Gerrard (Auckland), in three sets. McKenzie was seeded No. 2. The women's No. 1 seed, Miss R Morrison (Auckland), had no difficulty in winning the women’s A semi-final. However, the No. 6 seed. Miss D. Taylor (Auckland), had a hard match against the unseeded Miss G. Tompkins (Wellington). One final was decided yesterday Miss K. Williams (Christchurch) had no trouble in defeating Miss E Stewart (Nelson), 6-0, 6-1, in tht final of the women’s B grade singles All other finals are to be decided tomorrow. R a r ry (Wairarapa) and McDonald (Wellington) put up a stiff fight against Robson and McKenzie, but the latter pair’s experience told, and they won, 6-3, 6-4. Results:— A Grade Men’s Singles.—Semi-finals: J. Robson (Auckland) beat J. Barry (Wajrarapa), 6-2, 6-1; L. Gerrard (Auckland) beat R. McKenzie (Wellington). 6-1. 4-6, 6-2. Men’s Doubles.—Semi-final: J. Robson (Auckland) and R. McKenzie (Wellington) beat J. McDonald (WelBarry (Wairarapa). Women’s Singles.—R. Morrison (Auckland) beat J. Glenie (Auckland), 6-0, 6-1; D. Taylor (Auckland) beat G. Tompkins (Wellington). 4-6. 6-4, 7-5. Mixed Doubles.—Second round: B Boon and Miss Cox (Wellington) beat D. Taylor (Wellington) and Miss Luxton (Christchurch). 6-3, 6-4 Third round: Boon and Miss Cox beat C. Parker and Miss Glenie (Auckland); Parker and Miss Glenie beat E. Roberts and Mrs Roberts (Nelson), 6-0, 6-1. B Grade Men’s Doubles.—Semi-finals: Harris and L. Martin (Nelson) beat R. Best (Nelson) and T. Finlayson (Christchurch). 6-0. 6-0. Women’s Singles.—Semi-finals.—E. Stewart (Nelson) beat J. Sara (Takaka), 6-3. 6-3: K. Williams (Christchurch) beat D. Crow (Nelson). 6-2, 6-2. Final: Williams beat Stewart. 6-0, 6-1. Women’s Doubles.—Third Round: B. Green and R. Sutton (Motueka) beat H. Harris and H. Searle (Nelson), 6-4, 6-0.
