Malvern Beats - Ellesmere
•In the Sub-Association Shield match which concluded at Darfield yesterday Malvern beat Ellesmere by 190 runs. Malvern, continuing second innings from the pvernight total of 72 for one wicket, declared its second innings closed at 333 for five wickets, after fast scoring by several batsmen. Left to make 409 for the outright win, Ellesmere was dismissed for 209. 1 ‘ In the Malvern second Innings N. Q. Wright and J. G. Gunn were w sociated in a valuable third-wicket partnership of 118. Both batsmen scored briskly, and were well supported by D. Deans and A, F. Wright. Deans hit especially hard at the end of the innings. The Ellesmere batsmen were unable to cope with the leg-spinnerfe of J. Adams, who took five wickets for 99 runs off 21 eight-ball overs. With plenty of runs to play with, Adams repeated his fine performance against Banks Peninsulr recently. A. Riordan batted well for Ellesmere to score 41 runs, but he found no support from among his team-mates.

Ellesmere Games
Second-round matches in the Ellesmere Sub-Association’s P. V. Bailey Memorial Cup competition were played on Saturday. Most teams were weakened through absence of players taking part in the Subassociation Shield match at Darfield. The Irwell all-rounder M. Heslop gave the best performance of the day. Playing against Lincoln. Heslop scored a sound 105 not out for his team, and then took four wickets for 32 runs with his in-swing bowling. N. Heslop scored a forceful 58 for Irwell in the same match. A. Ayers, of Lincoln, made a solid 72 not out. and other good innings were by C. Tilson, of Weedons, and R Knight, of Dunsandel. The only bowler to take five or more wickets was the young Southbridge inswinger, M. Moorhead. Points after two rounds are: — Weedons 10, Dunsandel 7, Burnham 6, Irwell 5, Lincoln 2, Leeston 2. Southbridge 2.
Scores:— Dunsandel 206 for seven wickets declared (R. Knight 88, P. Buckenham 42, M. Murray 40; M. Moorhead five for 64) beat Southbridge 35 (C. Brown 18; M. Barrett four for 15, P Buckenham four for 14) and 57 for three wickets (A. Freeman 11. G Brown 18 not out. A.- Brown 23 not out; P. Buckenham one for 16. M. Murray two for 10). Weedons 148 (C. Watson one for 5). Irwell 219 for seven wickets declared (M. Heslop 105 not out, N. Heslop' 58, M. Dick 35; W. Fiecken four for 95) drew with Lincoln 147 for five wickets (A. Ayers 72 not out, H. Isbister 36; M. Heslop four for 32. M. Dick one for 30).
