SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE FUNDS
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 9.
In spite of all pleas to the contrary, the drive for funds to build a State Opera House at Sydney is not going well. The Opera House will cost more than £3,500,000 and so far only £200,000 has been subscribed Nearly all the money has come from Sydney people and firms. Interest in the country is very low. Newcastle people showed this week that they are not interested at all. Only 10 persons attended a meeting at the City Hall called to form a fund raising committee. After a short sitting the meeting decided that Newcastle was “neither interested nor prepared to form a committee to raise funds.”
