MARCHING

Canterbury Titles Decided The senior championships of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Marching Association were held recently. There were 15 entries in the three grades. In the C grade, the School for Deaf team, which has recently returned from Australia, made a clean sweep and won every section, and their leader. Ann Smith, was run-ner-up to Maureen Ovens (Caledonian Kilties) for the champion leader’s title Renown had a runaway victory in the B grade. The next team was 25 points behind. Janice Falloon. the Renown leader, was judged the best leader in this grade. Competition was much keener in the A grade, but on the aggregate the championship went to Gay Gordons. who marched exceedingly well It was the marching of the team that won them the title, as the leader lost 12 points to the winning leader, V. A Holdem (Rochdale) The team went down by three points to Downings Red Robins in the display but their fine marching put them 17 points ahead on the aggregate. The results were:— A Grade.—Champion team: Gay Gordons; champion leader: V. A Holdem (Rochdale). B Grade. —Champion team: Renown. Champion leader: Janice Falloon (Renown).

C Grade. —Champion team: School for Deaf. Champion leader: Maureen Overus (Caledonian Kilties). Display.—Open: School Ibr Deaf.
