The Australians won -their sixth first-class match in seven games when they beat Eastern Province by an innings and 81 runs, 20 minutes after tea on the third and final day’s play. Set to get 222 to avoid an innings defeat. Eastern Province was all out for 141, Benaud finishing with five for 44, giving him ten for 89 for the match. Drennan broke through the batting core when, after lunch, he took three for none in four overs before hobbling off with a torn leg muscle—which was not serious. Kline, who came on late in the innings, took two for 15, dismissing Lane. 3, who spooned up an easy catch to silly mid-off. Then Benaud finished the Innings by having Gush caught for 0.
