STOWAWAY TO BE DEPORTED
Tomarchin Sentenced At Auckland (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 10. Robert Tomarchin, a 27-year-old American estate salesman, appeared for sentence in the Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of stowing away in the Rangitata at Cristobal, Panama, on November 19. and was ordered to be detained in custody pending his deportation. Tomarchin will be taken to Wellington later and placed on the ship, Norfolk, for Panama. In answer to Mr J. W. Kealy, S.M., Tomarchin said he had seen the American Consul, but had nothing further to add.
The Magistrate made an order for the payment of the fare, £99 one way, plus Court costs £l, and solicitor’s fee £3 3s.
The Magistrate said he thought this was proper as Tomarchin had worked on the voyage from Panama in the Rangitata. Tomarchin said that payment of the fare would have to be arranged on his return to the United States.
