(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 3. A bank teller, Philip Lumsden, aged 36, narrowly escaped death from a point-blank shotgun blast when he challenged a bandit in a hold-up attempt at the Cremome branch of the Bank of New South Wales this afternoon.
The blast passed inches, above his head as he dived under the counter to grab his pistol. The bandit fled empty-handed when the teller began firing at him through the desk.
The bandit raced outside, fired another blast through the bank’s plate glass window, then escaped in a waiting car with an accomplice.
