Area Percentages Of Votes

Wellington and Christchurch are the two most pro-Labour areas, according to provisional count percentages calculated after voting in the General Election on Saturday. Wellington City voted Labour 56J per cent, and Christchurch City 56.4 per cent.

In only two areas of New Zealand—Auckland province end Taranaki—did the National party poll more than 50 per cent, of the vote. In Auckland province the figure was 51 per cent and in Taranaki 51.4 per cent. Labour’s lowest proportion of the vote was 38.3 per cent, in Auckland province; the comparable National figure was 37.7 per cent, in Christchurch city. Social Credit polled best in Wellington province (113 per cent) and Auckland province (10J per cent). In Christchurch the Social Credit share of votes ■was 5.7 per cent. In the four Maori seals Labour polled 66.7 per cent., National 173 per cent., and Social Credit 12J2 per cent. Independents accounted for the remainder of the I votes.
