THANKSGIVING DAY

Dinner At South Pole Base Welcome visitors were entertained at the South Pole station for Thanksgiving Day dinner, according to a message received in Christchurch. Three turkeys and one ham were given maximum security during the winter months by the cooks at the base. The dinner was served by two men dressed in chefs’ hats and white jackets, which had been presented by a New York hotel. It is not often that the men have visitors. They were men from the Navy VX-6 Squadron, who are making the engine change to the Neptune aircraft which has been stranded at the Pole since October 26. A full Thanksgiving dinner was sent by helicopter from Little America to the ice deformation study group camped at Roosevelt Island, 30 miles from Little America.
