TELL ME IF I’M BORING YOU

[By

WHIM WHAM]

One reason why there Is so much Interest In horse New Zealand is that earning a living has been made so secure tan it does not represent any particular challenge. And Ule without challenge is a dreadful bore. . . . M New Zealanders interested in their jobs their interest in horse racing woldd dimimsm Diagnosis by Mr Whiting Williams. American traveller and lecturer. In some Parts of the World, Life may be real. It may be earnest too—l wouldn't know. Good Kiwi born and bred, I ceased to feel The Stress, the Challenge of it, long ago. My Interest’s minimal, in my Employment: So slight that I can barely keep awake. I ply my listless Tasks without Enjoyment, Less for the Product’s than the Money’s sake. Yes, drearily the old Routine I follow From Nine to Five, or maybe Eight to Four. Slack is my Purpose, my Achievement hollow—- “ Life without Challenge is a dreadful Bore”. . Beyond these dozing Shores I hear it rumoured Men have Objective, Aims, Ambitions, Goals. I feel no Challenge, watching with good-humoured Indifference that March of strenuous Souls. The World’s a Stadium, vast and mapy-sided; There strive the Athletes, clash the Gladiators There fly the Flags! I am content, provided The Seats are comfortable for us Spectators. When the Performance wearies, as it must For one so unconcerned, remote, like Me— Then I seek Solace for my bored Disgust In the REAL Hazards of the T.A.B. Friend, do not try to tell me I am wrong. This is my Way ol Life! Let that be clear. Not Much, perhaps, to celebrate in Song Or Story, but it suits us Jokers here!
