i The Indian High Commissioner I to Australia and New Zealand (Mr P. A. Menon) called on the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) yesterday morning, and then went on a sightseeing tour. In-the afternoon he met members of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. The Rev. Royston Brown, minister of the Wellington Central Baptist Church, has been appointed assistant superintendent of the Invercargill Borstal.—(P.A.) Mr G. Seton-Kellaway, who has been secretary and treasurer of the North Canterbury Nassella Tussock Board for the last seven years, asked to be relieved of his duties in a letter received by the board yesterday. With the expanding operations of the board, he said, he could not fulfil his responsibilities to both the board and the Waipara County Council, of which he is county clerk. Regret at having to accept Mr SetonKellaway’s resignation was expressed by the chairman, Mr M. C. Hyde, and Mr J. W. Earl also paid a tribute to the work he had done for nassella tussock administration, even before he took up his present appointment. Mr H. R. Matthews, at present design engineer for the Dunedin City Corporation’s electricity department, has been appointed electrical engineer to the Napier City Council. He will succeed Mr D. H. Hastie. who will retire at the end of this year.— (P.A.)
