FLOOD DAMAGE IN SOUTHLAND
Road Repairs May Cost £30,000 (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Nov. 28. Flood damage repair bills on main highways and roads in Southland county may be about £30,000. The chief engineer (Mr K. F. Jones) reported to the council meeting today that it was not possible to give a detailed estimate of the repair work cost until flood waters had completely receded. He referred to the flood as “one of the worst we have ever had. A major worry at most of our bridges—the ones that did not fall down—was the collapse of wingwalls under the weight of the floodwaters.”
