their two-goal defeat in Paris two s< A rS crcfwd of 55,000 saw England, with a fine exhibition of fast and skilful, football, run into a threegoal lead by half-time. The goals came from a header by Tommy Taylor, the Manchester United centre-forward, in the third minute: a splendid right-footed drive by Bobby Roxson, of West Bromwich Albion, England’s new cap, m the twenty-third minute, and another from Taylor from close range m the thirty-third minute. France, which fielded a young, untried side, played much better in the second half, when it swung the ball about. „ England would have more than doubled its winning margin had it not been for a spectacular display in goal by the new French international, Claude Abbes. He saved a number of what seemed certain goals. He was only beaten once in the second half, when Robson netted six minutes from the finish.
