FIRE IN COOL STORE

Sawdust Insulation Still Alight (New Zealand Press Association) j HASTINGS, November 28. This morning two firemen were still pouring water on the top storey of Hawke's Bay Frozen Supplies’ cool store in Miller street, Hastings, which caught fire yesterday afternoon. The fire was burning in tons of shavings and sawdust used as insulation between the walls. Continuous outbreaks kept firemen on duty all last night. The fire, fanned by a strong westerly wind, was burning fiercely in the top floor and roof of the two-storey building when the Hastings Fire Brigade was called. The entire portion of the roof structure and some of the upper cool stores were badly burnt. The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes, but continued to break out in the sawdust. It may burn for days. The fire apparently started where electric power lines are taken into the building on the top floor. As it is the off season the top floor was practically empty, and there was only a small quantity of fruit and strawberries on the ground floor.
