MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY (Before Mr L. N. Ritchie, S.M.) OBSTRUCTED POLICE CONSTABLE David Graham Booth, aged 21, a timber-worker, pleaded guilty, to a charge of obstructing Gordon Alexander Lithgow, a police constable, in the lawful execution of his duty on November 26. Inspector C. H, Reardon said that when Constable Lithgow was bn duty in Colombo street on Tuesday he asked Booth to move on several times between 7.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Accused acceded to the request but at 8 5 p.m. Constable Lithgow saw him standing outside a milk-bar and again asked him to move. Booth said he would move on when he was ready and was arrested. He was at present on probation. A fine of £5 was imposed. REMANDED A man whose name was ordered not to be published was remanded to December 2 when charged with the theft of goods from a Government department on November 26. Bail was allowed in the sum of £5O and one surety of £5O. A 20-year-old seaman, Robert Hjorth Madson, was remanded to Monday on charges of being a prohibited immigrant, and being absent without leave from the overseas ship Jessie Maersk. SOCIAL SECURITY BREACH The Southern Cross Engineering Company, Ltd., which pleaded guilty through its managing director, was fined £2O on a charge of wrongfully , applying social security charges Mr D. H. Stringer, who appeared for the company, said that the reasons for the offence were the company’s lack of business experience and the illness of its bookkeeper. SMALL FISH For having under-size flounders in his possession, Richard John Banks was fined £3.
