SCHOOL PATROL SIGNS

Court’s Ruling May Be Contested

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 27.

An appeal may be made by the Transport Department against a recent decision in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court on the use of the present regulation "stop” signs by school traffic patrols.

This was indicated today by the Commissioner of Transport (Mr H. B. Smith) when he was asked to comment on a report that the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute considered that any uncertainty should be dispelled. “The Crown Solicitor at Wanganui has lodged notice of intention to appeal, and the question of proceeding with the appeal will be considered when the precise particulars are available as to the Magistrate’s decision,” said Mr Smith.

“If it is finally decided that the present system is not in accord with the regulations, the whole question will be reviewed, but in the meantime the department will carry on as at present,” added Mr Smith.
