Cricket PLAY STOPPED AT DURBAN
Declaration By Australia (HZ. Press Association—Copyright) DURBAN, November 25. With no play possible between tea - and stumps because of rain on the third day’s play against Natal, the Australians may have lost their opportunity to force a win on the last day. When rain stopped play five minutes before tea Harvey declared Australia’s innings closed at 369 for aix, giving a lead of 22 over Natal’s first innings of 147. Play was finally called off half an hour before stumps. Australia failed to make the most of the good start given by Burke, McDonald and Harvey, which enabled them to pass Natal’s first innings with the loss of only one wicket on Saturday. The later batsmen refused to force the pace, in spite of the three and three-quarter hours for the loss of Favell, Burke, Mackay, and Benaud.
