NEW POWER CHARGES
Deputation To Minister
A deputation from the City Council will meet the Minister in charge of the State Hydro-electric ' Department (Mr W. S. Goosman) j in Christchurch tomorrow to dis- j cuss with him the flat rate basis . for bulk power charges, which the Electric Supply Authorities’ Association approved recently, and representation on the association. Cr. L. G. Amos, chairman oi the electricity committee, the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) and Crs. H. P. Smith, W J. Cowles and G. Manning were appointed by the council recently | to meet the Minister.
The council agreed that the new basis of charging for power would be “a grave injustice” to Christchurch consumers. The] M.E.D. would have to meet a--55 per cent, increase in cost next year, compared with a 47 peri cent, increase to other authorities.
Of the association, it is contended that it is unfair to the bigger authorities that they should have only the same number ol votes as small power boards.
