Show Week Crowds Well Behaved
The behaviour of the many thousands of visitors to Christi church for Show Week was described by the Superintendent of Police, Christchurch (Mr D. R. Sugrue) as excellent. Police had experienced one of the quietest Show weeks for many years, but extra patrols had been used to watch for crime, he added. The race meetings, which often bring criminals to the city, had been extremely free of incident, he continued. Special police attention had been paid to the show grounds. Additional patrols had been used to watch the many thousI ands of pounds of ■ stock and machinery which stayed on the show grounds for three days.
