IMMIGRANTS FROM BRITAIN
More To Arrive Next Week
A party of 12 English immigrants. included in a draft which will land in Wellington in the Captain Cook next Thursday, will arrive in Ashburton on the Saturday The immigrants comprise three families, and include three farm workers, a carpenter, and painter. The members of the party have been nominated by employers in the district. A total of 36 immigrants will have settled in Ashburton this year when the present draft arrives, representing a gain of 17 male workers in the district. All have emigrated from England.
“There is a likelihood that another draft of immigrants will arrive in Ashburton before the end of the year,’’ said the district officer of the Department of Labour and Employment in Ashburton (Mr R. D. G. Nicholson).
