BRITISH STOCK OF H-BOMB FUEL
(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 15. Britain’s nuclear tests in the Central Pacific have had to be called off to save the nation’s stocks of hydrogen bomb fuel. the. "Nows Chronicle” said today. The newspaper said that the fuel for the Christmas Island test explosions had been seriously cut by the recent overheating accident at the Windscale plutonium plant. The plant produces cartridges for atomic and hydrogen bombs.
The “News Chronicle” said that up to three tests of hydrogen bombs and new warheads were due before Christmas, but they have been called off after one nominal explosion.
“It is unlikely that the Pacific tests will be resumed till the Windscale piles come into full action again.” the newspaper said.
