PUG PUPS BORN AT SHOW 7
First Time For Marty Years
The newest arrivals at the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Show yesterday were four pug puppies, which were born in a pen at the Canterbury Kennel Club’s annual show. This was the first time a bitch has whelped at the Show for many years. The mother of the pups, Champion Greta of Burwood, has been champion of the show in the past, and the father. Champion Braycshaw Togo, won the open pug class and the challenge trophy at this show. The dogs arc owned by Mi' and Mrs F. H. West, cf Scarborough, who hope they will grow up to be champions like their parents. Pugs generally have difficulty with whelping, and need expert attention during the delivery of the pups. Mr and Mrs West brought their bitch with them to the show, as they did not have anyone at home who could cope with the delivery. The pups were delivered with the aid of both Mr and Mrs West, when they were free from their duties in the show ring. Even the members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, who were on duty at the Show, took part in the birth. They were called on for hot water bottles, to' keep the pups warm. With typical ingenuity, they filled two empty , beer bottles with hot water, and placed them in the pen with the pups. Both bitch and pups were doing well last evening.
