DAIRY INDUSTRY RESERVES

Mr Walsh Said To Be “Incorrect”

(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. November 15.

The statement attributed to Mr F. P. Walsh that during the term of the National Government nothing went into the dairy industry reserves from production receipts, was entirely incorrect, the acting-chairman of the Dairy Board (Mr A. Hayward) said today. Mr Hayward said he was surprised that an informed man like Mr Walsh should have made such a statement. It was a fact, that since the National Party assumed office £8 million had been paid into the fund which, with interest of £3 million, brought the total up to £ll million since the 1949 season. Mr Hayward said he could not understand Mr Walsh falling into such an error because the figures were available in the annual report of the Dairy Products Marketing Commission. In his statement, Mr Walsh said the only accretion to the reserve fund since 1949 had been from interest.
