WHAKATANE BOARD PROSPECTS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. So long as orders for cardboard were maintained, as the directors believed they would be. the future of Whakatane Board Mills. Ltd., was bright, said the chairman, Mr G. H. Mackley, at the annual meeting in Wellington today.
A sum of £158,000 had been allocated for capital expenditure in the current year. Items included were:—Modernising part of No. 1 cardboard machine, £21,000; housing and installing fourth grinder motor in groundwood mill, £60,000; additional semi-chemical pulp plant. £5000; new laminating machine and duplex cutter. £47.000; additional instrument control for No. 1 machine to regulate quality of board, £6000; new laboratory building equipment, £20,000. The new mill superintendent. Mr W. Wright, had arrived from Canada. and another assistant industrial chemist was on the way from England.
A.N.Z. Bank Appointment.—Mr R. V. Alexander, who has been district manager in the chief manager’s office of the Australia and New Zealand Bank, Ltd., Wellington, for the last three years, will leave Wellington to take up his appointment as manager of the Martin place and George street, Sydney, branch of the bank.
