Christ’s College Chapel Dedication Next Month

The rGconstr ucted chapel at s College, a memorial to ( old boys who were killed in World < War 11, will be dedicated by the < Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. ' Rev. A. K. Warren) on December 1 8. Three services will be held s in the chapel on that ,day. i There will be a communion < service at 8 a.m., a service for < only the staff and pupils of the college at 10 a.m., and at 7 p.m. ] the dedication service, which will 1 be broadcast. 1 As the maximum seating ac- 1 commodation will be less than < 700 the Christ’s College Old Boys’ 1 Association has found it ncccs- 1 sary to make admission to the i communion and dedication services by ticket only. Two seats will be available to the next of kin of each of the fallen old boys and it is hoped to make two seats available to each family which has contributed to the war memorial fund. The reconstruction of the chapel will be finished in about a fortnight, according to the contractor yesterday. Only painting and other finishing touches remain to be done. The 78-year-old organ, which had to be rolled out of the organ j loft so that the floor on which ’ it stood could be replaced, is : again in position. All the old stained glass windows are back in place and visitors Io the chapel will also notice 1 the new Richards window. It is a memorial to the former head- 1 I master, Mr R. J. Richards.

In the entrance porch of the chapel the names of all the fallen old boys and the college coat of arms are carved in Oamaru stone. The name of each fallen old boy will be coloured according to the service he was in. Red will be used for those who were in the army, light blue for the air force, and dark blue for the navy. From the quadrangle the appearance of the chapel is as before, allhough its accommodation has been doubled. This is because only the north wall, the one facing the quadrangle, was left standing. All the old stone from the chapel has been used in its reconstruction.
