Sydney Wharf Men Call For Stoppage

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. November 14. Sydney waterside workers have decided to ask the Federal officers of the Waterside Workers’ Federation to call a national stopwork meeting. The proposed stoppage would be to protest against the suspension of waterside workers at various ports by the Australian Stevedoring Industry Authority. The move originated from an unauthorised stopwork meeting of the Sydney branch of the federation, attended by about 5000 men. The port of Sydney was idle Q H dav vesterday, and 29 ships were immobilised. The meeting followed the suspension for two days of 30 men for refusing to work for three foremen stevedores who had been blacklisted by the federation since November 4 for allegedly attacking a waterside worker. The meeting adopted a resolution reaffirming the ban on the stevedores until the A.S.I.A. hold an inquiry into the alleged attack and the deregistration of the waterside worker concerned. State leaders will take*"a telegraphic ballot to decide whether to hold the national stoppage. The result will be known early next week.
