Jehovah’s Witnesses Petition
A petition asking the Dominican Government to lift its ban of last July restricting the religious activity of Jehovah’s Witnesses there was approved at a recent meeting of Christchurch congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The petition cited specific names and places of claimed acts of brutality by police in the Dominican Republic, supported by lhe reports of eight of the 10 American missionaries who left the republic on August 3 last.
Taharoa Ironsands. — The Maori owners of the Taharoa ironsands have decided not to accept a firm offer for mining rights from the New Zealand Development Corporation but to wait for proposals from a second syndicate, the Fletcher-Kaiser interests. In the meantime the owners are to apply to the Maori Land Court for permission to form themselves into an incorporated trust. This was the unanimous decision of a meeting of owners in Taharoa which concluded on Tuesday |
