U.S. Serviceman And Fendalton Girl

Christchurch, the United States Antarctic operations, and Texas,: will be the background for a 1 novel being written by Mr Harold Watson, of Melbourne, who is, spending three months in Christ-, church obtaining information for, his book which will be entitled “A Home Down Under.” Next month, Mr Watson will leave for Auckland where he intends “to settle down and do three months’ solid writing.” His book is written about a Fendalton girl who meets a United States Air Force officer who, after completing his service in i Antarctica, returns to Christchurch to take up aerial topdressing.

Mr Watson has been obtaining his information on the United States Antarctic operations from the United States Air Force and Navy public information officers in Christchurch and is very pleased with the help they have! given him. He has been shown films and has now read many! books on Antarctica. More than half of the novel l will take place in Christchurch!, and Mr Watson said the friendly i, atmosphere in Christchurch was very noticeable.

When his book was published he intended to settle in New Zealand, he said.
