Swimming Otago Girl Betters N.Z. Junior Reeord

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. November 13. Robyn Harvey. Ihe Otago junior girls’ hackstroke champion, unofficially took one second off the New Zealand junior girls’ 50 yards backstroke record in a race in the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club's weekly competitions on Tuesday night. Miss Harvey won a handicap race in 33.8 sec. The record of 34.8 sec was established bv Miss Jean Stewart in 1945. Miss Harvey, who is 13. represented Otago at the New Zealand junior and intermediate championships last season. She is one of several swimmers who have had considerable success under the coaching of Mr Gordon David, superintendent of the Dunedin Municipal Pool.
