Miss Howard Predicts Investigation

M.P., Labour candi- . date for Sydenham, speaking in Papatoetoe this afternoon. A woman in the audience of about 160 had asked her whether Labour would do anything to stabilise the cost of funerals. “You can bet your life that we'll have a look at the undertakers,’* said Miss Howard, pound- ; ing the table on the stage of the • town hall. “The undertakers’ ■ ring is one of my hot subjects. “I'm on the hospital board in Christchurch, and when we have to bury’ people who have no relatives the cost is terrific. The undertakers are ruthless and ada■mant in keeping the cost of dying up. "Oh. yes, you can bet your bottom dollar that we’ll have a go : at the undertakers,” Miss Howard ;
