J Two functions were Ijeld this ’ week to bid farewell to Mr A. ,iB. Simpson, who has retired from the teaching profession after 29 years’ service at the Fendalton School. On Monday, Mr and Mrs * Simpson were entertained by the ’ present staff, at afternoon tea. r References were made by the ' present headmaswr (Mr P. R. : Willberg) and by Mr C. F. Hor- * gan. Miss M. A. James, and Miss M. Guild, members of the staff. ; to Mr Simpson’s devoted work * for the school. “ A presentation of an electric 2 razor was made to Mr Simpson, ’ and Mrs Simpson received a spray ’of flowers. Mr Simpson, when replying, mentioned the cordial relations he had always had with . his fellow teachers. 1 On Tuesday afternon. the e pupils of the school entertained s Mr Simpson. Sandra Cocks, of Form 11. presented him with a r cheque and Gerald Orchard, also !, of Form 11. presented him with □ a wristlet watch. Gerald Ors chard also thanked Mr Simpson t for his work with his class and - especially for his efforts in \ coaching the boys’ cricket and a Rugby teams. a Mrs H. E. Holland, on behalf ol - the school committee, referred tc f Mr Simpson’s good influence or I the school. Mr Willberg spoke e J of Mr Simpson’s valuable work

with the school grounds. i A former headmaster. Mr A. R. [ Blank, on behalf of former headmasters and teachers who had ibeen associated with Mr Simple son, referred to his great quali--11 ties as a teacher. Two other iiformer headmasters. Messrs F. J. • i Tempero and V. W. Colville, were 'present, together with two former I infant mistresses. Misses Wauchop i 1; and Spillane. I; In replying. Mr Simpson spoke of the value of hard work and ' honesty in building character, and II said that if he were to have his i life over again, he would still • | wish for his 29 years at the Fenl dalton School.
