DURATION OF N.Z. PARLIAMENTS
View Of Social Credit Leader
A complaint that a report of his election speech on Wednesday evening contained a reference to his party’s views on the duration of New Zealand Parliaments which was incorrect has been made by the leader of the New Zealand Social Credit Political League. Mr Wilfrid B. Owen. Mr Owen was reported as saying that “Parliamentary life should be extended to five years, but such a matter will have to go before the second chamber.” Mr Owen says that, referring to a statement by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) that he (the Prime Minister) favoured fiveyear Parliaments, he said: “It has already been suggested that Parliamentary life should be extended ‘o five vears. We say three years. We. will stick to a three-year Parliament.”
