RIDER FOR FLAIR IN CUP

“The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. November 3. The Gore horseman, G. W. Wright, will ride Flair in the New Zealand Cup at Riccarton next Saturday Wright was on Flair when he won the President’s Handicap under 9-10 at Gore on Labour Day. He was a chance mount for Wright because his usual rider, F. H. Skelton, preferred the mount on Horatius, a wet day horse, in the same race.

The connexions of Flair have decided to retain Wright’s services for the cup race. Flair will be taken North on Tuesday along with his stablemate, Nairn Bridge, which is engaged in the Riccarton Handicap, and the Riverton two-year-old Maybeso, a candidate for the Welcome Stakes. Nairn Bridge will be ridden by F. H. Skelton.

Omoto Meeting.—The committee of the Greymouth Jockey Club has decided against the holding of two doubles at its meeting at Omoto next month. The introduction of a second double was advocated by speakers at the annual meeting of the club last month. The committee, however, is of the opinion that there is not sufficient time before the coming meeting to organise two doubles in the one day. The fields and other factors will be closely examined, with a view to ascertaining whether it would be feasible to have an extra double at future meetings.
