LAMB KILLING SEASON

Opening Prices Higher

Prices have been announced for lamb killed for export in Canterbury and Marlborough in the first week of the new export season, which begins today. They are identical with the opening rates announced in Hawke's Bay almost two weeks ago, and are from 2Jd to 3sd per lb above the initial prices paid last season. But a freezing industry spokesman said last evening that this schedule was for early shipment, and when the early boats had Keen loaded these prices would be subject to review.

Prime light-weight lamb up to 281 b is quoted at 28d per lb. which makes a 281 b lamb of this quality worth 65s 4d. The opening prices as delivered) to nearest Marlborough or Canterbury works are: Prime— d per lb U/281b .. ..28 29 to 361 b .. ..26 37 to 421 b .. ..23$ 43 to 501 b .. .. 21i 51 to 561 b .. .. 19J Second Quality— U/281b .. .. 27 29 to 361 b .. ..25 37 to 421 b .. ..22$
