English Women's Cricket Team

The highlight of the 1957-58 season for women cricketers will be the visit of the English team, which will arrive in Wellington on November 2. The team will play two matches in Christchurch, against Canterbury and New Zealand. The second match, the first test, will be played on November 29 and 30 and December 2 The Canterbury Association obtained the use of a large city building in which to carry out pre-season practice and the players are now recapturing last year’s form. They should have regained this by the time of the first match against the visiting team.

The most experienced members of the Canterbury team will probably be P. Blackler and M. Rouse, with other tried players in E. Woods, O. Williams, R. Dickson. Y. Dickson and P. Moore to form the nucleus.

The province’s younger players showed promising form at the end of last season, and several of them could have strong claims for a place in the side. The English team is an extremely strong one. but it is hoped that the Canterbury side’s keenness will produce a close game.
