Swimming Award To D. W. Cain
The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association’s conferring of a Service Award upon Mr D. W. Cain, president of the Wha r e n u i Swimm i n g Club, is just recognition of a man who has done much at club level to raise # the standard of swimming in Christchurch. That Wharenui is now a strong swimming club is almost entirely due to Mr Cain’s work. In recent years he has been club captain, delegate to the Canterbury centre, a member of the New Zealand council, and a coach. As he is also a water polo referee, Mr Cain has little opportunity for other spare-time activities. Before joining the Wharenui club, Mr Cain was with the Riccarton club, was its first delegate tn the Canterbury centre, and was largely responsible in making it a strong club.
