TURKEY-SYRIA DISPUTE
Hammarskjold May Negotiate
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 1130 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 30. The United Nations General Assembly was expected to wind up its debate on the Syrian-Turkish dispute today amid reports that the Secretary-General, Mr Hammarskjold, might try personally to reduce the tension between Turkey and Syria. Informed sources said that Western delegations were working to find a W’ay to let the discussion “fizzle out” and at the same time ensure that the end was ‘tidy.”
. In the absence of a resolution, Mr Hammarskjold might make a formal statement that he would use his “good offices” to reduce the tension, informants said.
